Types of Tractors

Tractors come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and models. You may not know which one is best for you. That’s where Burrow Tractor comes in. We know a thing or two about tractors! Read on to learn about different models you can buy, and give us a call when you’re ready to see some machines in person. We have locations in Yakima, Wenatchee, and Sunnyside, Washington, as well as North Plains, Oregon!

Subcompact

Subcompact tractors (under 25 horsepower) are designed for light farm work. The small size of these machines leads to impressive agility which allows the operator to maneuver in tight spaces. This makes it easier to navigate around barns and trees. This type of tractor also comes at the lowest price, making them perfect for those on a tighter budget.

Because of the lower power potential, you will be limited when it comes to attachments you can utilize. However, there are some attachments that can still be used, such as a front-end loader.

Features of this type of tractor include:

  • Weight: between 500 and 1,200 pounds.
  • Rear wheel size: less than 30 inches.
  • Width of equipment: less than 48 inches.

Compact

If you’re looking for something a little more powerful, a compact tractor may be the right type of equipment for you. These machines have anywhere from 25 to 60 horsepower and are ideal for most agricultural needs. The power potential is usually enough to handle many projects, outside of commercial tasks.

The smaller sized models within this type offer some of the agility of subcompact tractors, but compact models are more compatible with a wider range of implements. The higher horsepower also results in an enhanced ability to handle different tasks like using a tiller or a box-blade.

The larger models within this category have a turbocharger on the engine which boosts performance.

Features of this type of tractor include:

  • Weight: between 1,500 and 6,000 pounds.
  • Rear wheel size: 30 to 36 inches.
  • Width of equipment: 42 to 54 inches.

Utility

One other type of tractor you may be interested in is a utility model. These models feature 60 to 140 horsepower and are ideal for large commercial projects. The large size of these machines mean there is more room for additional features like multiple hydraulic hookups and PTOs at the front, back, and side. The cab often offers features like heating, air conditioning, and adjustable seating!

Features of this type of tractor include:

  • Weight: between 3,000 and 4,000 pounds.
  • Rear wheel size: 36 to 60 inches.
  • Width of equipment: 54 to 72 inches.
